Megamind

Ow! My giant blue head! Hitting the box office like crazy this week (number 1 with $46m), Megamind is a new DreamWorks animation movie with star-studded voice cast like Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, and Tina Fey (love her!). Just watched it yesterday night (or rather morning). It was my first time catching a midnight movie. Yes, there's a whole lot of things i've yet to do at my age. Blah~

Actually i was prepared to fall asleep in the cinema but the movie kept me awake the whole 1 hour 36 minutes. From the looks of the preview, it would not be the kind of movie i would usually spend RM10 on, especially cartoons. But since it was someone's treat, i couldn't turn down. Even if that means taking away 2 hours of my beauty sleep. :D

Now, back to the movie - just one word - PREDICTABLE. I can't help it but to also label this one as predictable (the previous was legend of the guardians). Because it IS! The whole bloody story is already told in the preview itself! I think what DreamWorks was trying to do was to make a villain turn good instead of the cliche "superhero kills off the villain" plot. This definitely applies the catharsis theory i learnt from my scriptwriting class previously. No one is 100% evil.

Megamind and Metroman were nemesis from the day they set foot on Earth. Countless times, Megamind fails to beat Metroman, even with some of his genius inventions. One fine day, Megamind finally successfully but kinda accidentally "killed" Metroman. Victory was his until he realize how bored it was not having anyone to fight with anymore. (Gasp! A villain misses a hero? Hahaha.) That's when he decided to create a new superhero using Metroman's DNA. And he did! Titan was born! But..... instead of using his new found powers to save the citizens of Metro City, Titan plans to destroy it, leaving Megamind with no choice but to save it. So, that's how the blue alien (supposedly bad) turns good in the end.

And he gets the girl too. (Megamind i mean)

A big applause to the cast though. All of them played the characters' voice really well. Will Ferrell gave enough wittiness to Megamind and Brad Pitt was a nice choice for the vain Metroman. As for Tina Fey, she did pretty well as sassy free-spirited reporter Roxanne (both my sis and bro-in-law likes that name. perhaps my future niece? LOL!).

Another thing i also realized, the movie builds on the value of love. Love changes a person. It brings out a side of you that you did not know you had. First was Megamind himself and then, Hal aka Titan. Both of them fell in love which made Megamind soften a bit and made Hal/Titan become bad. (something i just figured out)

P.S.: The movie somehow reminded me a little bit of The Incredibles and Superman.
